EALTHY was founded in 2014, after the success of the 1st English for Healthcare Conference in Locarno, Switzerland. The association began as a small group of teachers, materials writers and course developers involved in English language training for healthcare and medicine. Over the last 4 years the association has grown significantly, and our interest has widened to include medical interpreters, translators, researchers and medical English exam providers. We now have a truly international membership base with members from all over the world. We currently refer mainly to English but are very interested in developing EALTHY to include any language taught for medical and healthcare purposes.
Membership gives reduced price entry to partnered events (such as the International Medical English Conference, 2018) and the biannual association conference, the English for Healthcare Conference), free entry to workshops, teaching materials and lesson plans and three issues (online) of the EALTHY Magazine. Individual membership of EALTHY starts from 55 Sfr (approx. £40 / 45€).
In 2018, Professor John Skelton became President of the Association.
